How We Ship Fresh Sourdough Bread Anywhere in Florida
Share
Hi, I'm Bas. Most weeks you'll find me at the farmers markets or baking for local delivery around Longwood. But a lot of people who love real sourdough live too far from Central Florida to meet us at a market. So we ship. If you have a Florida address, our bread can come to you. Here's how it works, start to finish.
Baked for your order, not pulled from a shelf
Every loaf we ship is baked for that week's shipment. We don't keep bread sitting around waiting for orders. Our Signature Sourdough is just organic flour, water and salt, raised slowly with our own starter. That's real sourdough, and it's the bread I want on my own table.
The weekly schedule
We keep it simple so your bread spends as little time in a box as possible:
- Wednesday, noon: order cutoff.
- Thursday morning: we bake your order.
- Thursday afternoon: it ships.
- Friday: it arrives at your Florida address.
If you order after Wednesday noon, your bread goes out the following Thursday. That one rule is the whole secret to getting fresh sourdough by mail.
What I can ship to you
Pretty much everything we bake for the markets travels well:
- Loaves: Signature Sourdough, Multigrain (Super 7 Seed Mix), Jalapeño Cheddar, Garlic Parmesan, Olive and Chocolate Espresso, plus our fall loaves, Cranberry Walnut and Sun-dried Tomatoes and Basil.
- Sliced loaves: Sliced Classic and Sliced Multigrain, ready for the freezer and the toaster.
- Sourdough scones in packs of four, like Cranberry Orange, Blueberry Lemon and Bacon Cheddar Rosemary.
- Our starter: Van Dough Jr. ships wet and alive in a small jar, and it comes from an Italian starter more than 1,000 years old. The starter kit adds a banneton, a baking mat, a dough scraper, a knife and a printed care guide.
- A Dutch treat: caramel stroopwafels, six to a pack.
What shipping costs
Florida shipping is $8 on orders under $50, and free on orders of $50 or more. The easiest way to get there is our Free-Shipping Box: pick three loaves plus scones and the shipping is on us.
We ship within Florida only. The one exception is the Florida Keys, where overnight carriers can't promise your bread arrives fresh. You can read the details on our shipping policy.
Keeping it fresh once it lands
Open the box and leave your loaf at room temperature for a day or two. If you won't finish it by then, slice it and freeze it. You can toast slices straight from frozen, which is how I eat most of my bread anyway. I wrote more about this in how to freeze and store sourdough and how to toast sourdough.
Live near Longwood? Skip the shipping
If you're in Central Florida, you don't need this site's shipping at all. Local delivery around Longwood and all market preorders go through Hotplate. Local delivery is on Thursday with a $20 minimum and no delivery fee. You can also meet us Saturday at the Port Orange Farmers Market and the Winter Park Farmers Market, or Sunday at the Mount Dora Village Farmers Market. See Local & markets and sourdough delivery in the Orlando area. And our Longwood bakery is opening mid-November.
