Live Sourdough Starter - Van Dough Jr.

Van Dough Jr. is a live, active sourdough starter that comes from an Italian starter more than 1,000 years old. We ship him wet and alive, not dried, in a jar with about 50–70 g of starter. He's fed on organic wheat flour and water, so he's ready to wake up and bake with soon after he arrives.

Every jar comes with our printed care guide, which covers:

• the first feeding (50 g starter, 50 g lukewarm unchlorinated water and 50 g bread flour, kept at 70–75°F)
• daily feeding if you bake often, or keeping him in the fridge and feeding him weekly
• going up to 2 weeks in the fridge without a feeding, or up to 6 months in the freezer
• troubleshooting for "hooch" (the liquid on top), a sluggish rise and mold

Shipping. We ship across Florida only. Order by Wednesday noon, and it ships Thursday and arrives Friday. Shipping is $8, or free on orders of $50 or more.

Keeps 1–2 days at room temperature. To keep longer, slice and freeze. Toast slices straight from frozen.
